This morning I woke up
With a fully stocked fridge
And pantries brimming with food.
Abundance doing nothing to hinder
My drive to race out the front door
To meet strangers on a heart-to-heart level.
Kind folk with homes away from home
And all manner of backgrounds.
A family of six, each with an instrument.
A young man selling plushies for his absent mother.
A woman painting x-rays of animals.
A woman dreaming of creating urns for deceased pets.
A couple selling meat I had no interest in.
A young woman drawing henna tattoos
Realizing her thoughts are not always her own.
Another young woman with a fae alias
Concerned about her health and eager to collaborate.
A Latter Day Saints booth excited about a jail
Handing out mints and pens I do not prefer.
A delightful-looking dog
With a sign reading: DO NOT PET
A gloomy art student turned Project Manager
Attempting to manifest a new life.
A young couple who lost 39 of 40 baby chickens to hawks
And then decided to save the last one.
All of this camaraderie made me hungry.
So I stopped at a cozy cafe
For my favorite Hungarian grilled cheese sandwich
And a bean salad.
None of this was what I expected it to be.
It was much more.
I wonder what next week has in store.
