I find
The best tasting taffy
Is given by a loving mother
Watching as I put it into my mouth
Her wide eyes and excitement
Mirroring my own
Somehow her joy seems greater
With no candy in her mouth
Just a smiling face
Embodied childlike joy
A revelry of wordless communication
Eyebrows raised high
Cheeks stretched wide
Saying to me:
I know exactly what that tastes like
What that feels like
And it makes me so happy
To see you so happy
And she watches and waits
Until I am finished
And then she asks me
If I would like another one
And I hold out my hand
And she gives me three more pieces
Reliving the moment
Over and over
